2020 Team Titan Pitch Wars Wishlist, Part 2

*Accessible Version: HERE

Hello! If you’re reading this, you’re really interested in joining Team Titan and want to know a little more about what it might be like to work with us--we’re glad you asked! We’ve told you what we’re looking for in a mentee, and the kind of stories we love, now we’ll tell you a little more about what working with us would be like! To see our official wishlist, click here. To learn more about the Pitch Wars mentorship program, click here.

We will check in with you at least once a week, and are good about responding to emails and messages quickly. That said, we’d like a mentee who really takes initiative. We're not the hand-holding type, so if you need that (and it’s OKAY if you do!) we may not be the best mentors for you.

We each live in different parts of the world, but this can work to your advantage because it means at least one of us will be awake and available at any given time of the day. We love writers from all over the world!! We are happy to identify a medium that works well for you and communicate with you through that. Our favorites are:

  • Email

  • Google Docs

  • WhatsApp

  • Discord

  • Video Chat

Once we have selected our mentee, you will receive a full edit letter that addresses all the big points--Character Development, Worldbuilding, Pacing, Syntax, Emotional Stakes, etc. We’ll tell you what we love, and we’ll tell you where we think you could do more to make your work really shine. We’re going to be honest, but also kind and supportive--we’re here to ultimately respect your vision. This is your book, and we want you to be proud of it!

After you’ve read your edit letter, we can all get together (if you want) for a chat to talk through any questions you have and to bounce ideas around if that’s helpful. We will always be available for questions and concerns, but we really would love to work with someone that can take feedback and run with it!

We know revising is challenging and sometimes disheartening, so we will be there to answer any questions you have, talk you through the process and cheer you on! Prepare to work hard, but smart. Our goal is to help you create the strongest possible manuscript and pitch for February.

Once you have completed your revisions (usually by early January), we will re-read your manuscript to ensure it’s in tip-top shape, then we get to what Ayana calls the fun part. We’ll work with you to create a captivating pitch and query letter for the Agent Showcase! Together, we’ll share the industry knowledge we have to help you prepare you to begin your querying journey and publication journey!

Showcase can be an anxiety-ridden time for mentees--your work is officially out there for agents (and the world) to see. Luckily, that’s TEAM TITAN GO TIME! We’ll be with you through this, sharing information about interested agents, and help you strategize and game plan no matter what happens--we’re with you to the end!

If all of this sounds swell to you, we’d love to welcome you to the Team Titan Tower (okay, it’s not really a tower but we’re writers, we can imagine). If you still have questions about how we work, you can reach Maiya or Ayana here:
